Our un-getaway

We wanted to do something kind of big to celebrate our 15th anniversary this year. But we didn't want to go over our budget, either. After tossing around a lot of ideas, we decided that instead of going on a trip, we'd stay home. The kids went to spend 5 days with their generous aunt and uncle and cousins, and Mike and I spent 5 days doing a bunch of fun things around here. Here are some of the things we enjoyed most:

Horseback riding through aspen trees at Sundance (through Rocky Mountain Outfitters).

Eating at our favorite Argentine restaurant, which has changed its name twice since we discovered it, but still has the milanesa and lomitos we love.

Going out to a fun movie (Up).

Walking along the trails and taking pictures at Red Butte Garden.

Spending most of a day helping at the Oquirrh Mountain Temple open house.

Eating at another favorite restaurant, Maddox Ranch House.

Paddling a canoe on the Jordanelle Reservoir. I'd never gone out in a small boat like that before, and there were a couple of scary moments when a motorboat's wake would rock us, but overall it was very enjoyable! I love how quiet it is when you are out in a boat with no motor. And I was surprised how little it cost to rent a canoe there ($15/hour, plus $10 to get into the state park). I would like to get brave and go back sometime for a longer excursion.

It's been a great week! Very relaxing and romantic. Now the kids are back with us, the phone is back on the hook, and we're back to real life, with its laundry, dishes, and to-do lists. Luckily, we like our real life too.

Congrats too on your 15th. We had plans too for our 15...we had the hotel in Portland reserved, the train tickets bought, the Temple time with friends, and the massages scheduled....but then Dave got called into the Bishopric that weekend. Some thought that we should have gone anyway...but we love the Lord , and now I have a rain check for the end of summer after the kids go back to school. It will be a double treat for me.....Anniversary and the kids are at school. Yippee.
