That's one way to get out of teaching a lesson...

I was scheduled to teach the Young Women lesson next Sunday. I had pulled together a few things for it, but had planned to really work on it this afternoon after church. Then last night I got a call asking me to come meet with the bishop before church today.

It's pretty amazing how the Church works. In the space of about 4 hours I was asked to accept a new responsibility; the announcement was made that I was released from my old assignment and given the new one; the Young Women president made arrangements for someone else to teach that lesson next week; and just like that, I'm doing something completely different that I didn't have any idea about when I woke up this morning. And this happens every week in wards and branches all over the world. And the majority of people say yes, and despite any feelings of inadequacy, they go on to serve in their new callings the best that they can, and grow and learn and become more than they were.

I'll miss working with the young women, but I love Relief Society (the women's organization of the Church) and it will be challenging and fun serving as a counselor there. Our Relief Society president is one of the nicest and happiest ladies in the whole world. She makes everyone around her feel better about themselves -- a talent I want to learn.

Update - Monday night I was told that the bishop wants the whole R.S. Presidency to give talks next Sunday. Guess I spoke too soon about getting out of things...

Oh man! At first I was thinking how fortunate that you won't have to teach YW, but now you have a new calling and you have to talk in sacrament meeting while wrangling my kids and yours! I am so sorry about the timing of that! But I know you'll do a good job. Well, what doesn't kill you will just make you stronger, right?
